2025-02-11 Garmin Etrex SE

Recently I replaced my Etrex 10 with what I guess is the new version the Etrex SE and I have to say I am very pleased with it.

Compared to my old Etrex the display is much better, it's faster and has incredible battery life and I think easier to use.

I read a lot of reviews and to be honest on balance it did not look good, but for some reason I still went ahead and bought it and I am glad I did.

Some adventurers may want more from their GPS such as mapping so if you are coming from a model with maps then you may find it difficult to adapt to this basic GPS handheld.

I however have much simpler needs, battery life is important to me, I used my old Etrex to navigate across Iceland and I only changed the batteries once, with the Etrex SE I would not need to at all.

I do want to record my activities, follow routes, get my bearings etc. and it does all this brilliantly, I could do this on my mobile but battery would be an issue on multi day trips having to worry about charging even with power packs I prefer to save my mobile for when really needed for emergency calls and map details using the Garmin explorer app when needed.
